Principles of Workplace Health and Safety in the UK

This book is designed to support learners studying Unit DN1 of the NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals.

The book covers workplace health and safety principles, including promoting a positive health and safety culture, understanding risk management, implementing health and safety monitoring systems and developing professional skills and ethics to actively influence improvements in health and safety.

The book is divided into chapters that are structured around the syllabus topic, assessment  criteria and learning outcomes. It includes practical examples, case law, case studies and tips to support learners in their studies.

Update: incident definitions (immediate, underlying and root causes). Some definitions differ slightly across NEBOSH publications. The HSE have agreed that there are no universal definitions. For clarity, NEBOSH will use the definitions from page 6 of Investigating accidents and incidents: A workbook for employers, unions, safety representatives and safety professionals (HSG245).
